Rice Professor, Shelly Harvey, on List of Notable Women in Mathematics
Rice University mathematics professor and member of the RUSMP Advisory Board, Shelly Harvey, is on this list of prominent women who have made noteworthy contributions to mathematics. These women have made significant contributions in mathematical research, mathematics education, the history and philosophy of mathematics, public outreach, and mathematics contests.
Professor Harvey's research interests include low-dimensional topology and geometry, group theory, non-commutative algebra. She was the recipient of a prestigious National Science Foundation Career Grant which included funding for a five-year summer program, the Mathematical Institute for Young Women. This very popular program gave selected high school female students opportunities to experience mathematics at Rice University.
