Richard Parr

Richard Parr is currently the Executive Director for the Rice University School Mathematics Project (RUSMP). Previously he has served RUSMP in in the positions of Director of Secondary Education, Director of Educational Technology, and RUSMP Master Teacher. He also served as Manager for the Rice University Mathematics Leadership Institute.

Prior to his work at RUSMP, Richard taught high school mathematics for 14 years in the Fort Bend Independent School District teaching all high school math courses from Fundamentals of Mathematics through AP Calculus BC. While in Fort Bend, Richard authored the district’s Gifted/Talented Pre-Calculus and Calculus curriculum and served as President of the Fort Bend Council of Teachers of Mathematics. 

Richard is a proud alumnus of Rice University, graduating with a B.A. in Economics in 1985. He received a M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from the University of Houston in 2001 and an Ed.D. in Professional Leadership (K-12 Education) in 2015.

Richard also has also served since 1993 as a National Instructor for the Texas Instruments Teachers Teaching with Technology (T3) program. As a T3 Instructor, he has had the opportunity to make presentations on the effective use of calculator technology both nationally and internationally.

When he is not working or traveling, Richard enjoys spending time at home with his partner and his chihuahua, Chipper.
