Computer Science teachers from RUSMP's Code.org cohort attended the 2018 TeachTXCon at the University of Texas-Dallas, July 30 - August 3. The event brought together CS teachers from across the state who were members of CS teacher cohorts from each of Code.org's Texas Regional partners including RUSMP, the University of Texas STEM Center, and the Institute for Instructional Effectiveness at the University of Texas-Dallas.
The Rice cohort's 46 teachers received in-depth professional development in one of two Code.org CS curriculum frameworks; CS Discoveries, designed for middle school and early high school teachers and AP CS Principles, designed for high school students. Instruction for the week was led by RUSMP's Code.org instructors, Matthew Jefferson and Djuana Bossette (CS Discoveries) and Alice Fisher and Rachel Jones (AP CS Principles), who will also facilitate the four academic-year follow-up sessions that teachers in the cohort will attend during the year to receive additional just-in-time support. The RUSMP cohort's participation at the event was coordinated by Code.org manager and Director of Secondary Programs, Susan Troutman.
