The Rice University School Mathematics Project (RUSMP) was established in 1987 in order to provide a bridge between the Rice University mathematics research community and Houston-area mathematics teachers. RUSMP has received funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the United States Department of Education Eisenhower and Teacher Quality Programs, and from corporations, foundations and school districts.
Experienced educators recognized for their achievements in education, knowledgeable evaluators and researchers, and dedicated program support staff¬† plan, administer, and facilitate all RUSMP activities make up the RUSMP Staff.¬†They work collaboratively with school and district¬†educators, Rice University faculty and staff, and community partners to create programs and courses that meet the needs of mathematics teachers, teacher leaders, and students.
Leading educators with successful experience in teaching children and adults, the members of the RUSMP Instructional Team work alongside RUSMP Directors to design and facilitate a wide variety of instructional programs for teachers, teacher leaders, and students. Drawing on their diverse backgrounds, they are recognized for their ability to make mathematics meaningful for students and to share their knowledge with fellow educators.
Rice University undergraduate students are an integral part of the RUSMP team. They assist with RUSMP educational research, office management, and other duties to help RUSMP run more effectively.
The Advisory Board consists of researchers and mathematicians who are all acknowledged experts in their fields and who have demonstrated serious commitments to and interests in promoting excellence in mathematics education. The advisory board provides guidance and support to RUSMP Directors in the development of new programs and collaborations and in the improvement of existing activities.
