Carolyn White, RUSMP Director of Elementary Programs, and Susan Troutman, RUSMP Director of Secondary Programs, presented "Using Coffee Stirrers to Develop Reasoning about Geometric Shapes and Their Attributes" on Friday April 27 at the NCTM Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. During this session, the 70 teachers in attendance participated in hands-on activities that would help students at all grade levels develop their geometric thinking skills. Carolyn and Susan also demonstrated how children's literature could be incorporated in these activities to better help develop students' conceptual understanding.
