Keynote by Dr. Claudia Aguirre, President and CEO of BakerRipley

Dr. Claudia Aguirre has dedicated nearly 30 years to advancing education, public service, and community development. A former teacher, charter school founder, and school district superintendent, she now serves as President and CEO of BakerRipley, one of the nation’s largest community development nonprofits. BakerRipley serves more than half a million people every year, addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing families in education, workforce development, immigration, and economic mobility. Dr. Aguirre is also Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Board of Directors, bringing the voices and experiences of working families to one of the nation’s most important economic institutions. Dr. Aguirre’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to education, opportunity, and strengthening working families. |

Developing Number Sense for K-2 Teachers
Four 2-hour meetings: Thursdays 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5, and Nov. 12.
Teachers will strengthen their Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in number sense. Teachers will receive 8 CPE hours. On Rice Campus (parking validations provided).

K-2 teachers who are seeking to strengthen their understanding of number sense and algebraic reasoning. The primary focus of the course is exploring algebraic thinking with an emphasis on mathematical processes and utilizing student centered activities that promote success. Concepts are aligned to state and national standards:
- Numbers, Operations, and Quantitative
- Reasoning Whole number concepts and computations
- Numeration Place value Coin values and relationships
- Patterns, Relationships, and Algebraic Reasoning
- Vertical alignment activities to emphasize preparation for the next stage of learning

Geometric Reasoning for MS Teachers (VIRTUAL)
Four 2-hour meetings: Tuesdays 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. on Oct. 20, Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Nov. 10.
Teachers will strengthen their Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in geometry. Teachers will receive 8 CPE hours.

Middle school mathematics teachers who are seeking a strong foundation in geometry for Grades 6-8. The course provides strategies for developing students’ geometric reasoning using van Hiele model and emphasizes the use of geometry to describe, model, or solve problems. Concepts are aligned with the TEKS:
- Lines and angles Perimeter, area, and volume
- Triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem
- Critical attributes of similarity and congruence
- Geometric reflections, translations, and transformations
- Vertical alignment activities to emphasize preparation for the next stage of learning

SPRING 2027
- Developing Algebraic Reasoning for Grades 3-5 Teachers — Teachers will strengthen their Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in algebraic reasoning. Teachers will receive 8 CPE hours. Dates: TBD
- Geometric Explorations for MS Teachers — Teachers will strengthen their Mathematical Knowledge for Teaching (MKT) in geometry. Teachers will receive 8 CPE hours. Dates: TBD
- Math Circle for Teachers — Teachers will engage in practical math activities to implement in their classroom. Teachers will receive up to 3 CPE hours. Date: TBD
- Math Circle for Students — Middle school students will engage in interesting math problems that they don’t see in schools. Date: TBD
