Funded by the CECU Research Foundation, this study analyzed the outcomes of allied healthcare education in Texas, focusing on graduation rates and economic mobility between career schools (CAR) and community colleges (CC) using the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) enrollment and graduation data and Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) wage data between 2015-2024. The data are accessed through the Education Research Center (ERC) at the University of Houston.
CAR institutions provide a more effective pathway into the healthcare workforce, but equity challenges remain. CAR institutions show higher graduation rates and economic mobility compared to CC institutions. African American students face ongoing wage gaps and lower graduation rates. The findings highlight the need for targeted support for historically underserved populations.
