MY UNLIKELY JOURNEY FROM THE BARRIOS OF LOS ANGELES TO THE WHITE HOUSE & THE NATIONAL MEDAL OF SCIENCE
by
Richard Tapia
University Professor, Director of the Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity in Education, Rice University
This talk is intended to be motivational and is directed at students. I hope to motivate by sharing my life story, including the many adversities and the many successes. I want to let students know that “si se puede”. Yes it is possible to go from a humble beginning to the top of your career dreams, but this path will most likely be long and winding with many challenges and obstacles. However, we must not lose sight of the pot of gold at the end of the path.
