LEARN MORE

Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, is NCTM’s newest journal that reflects the current practices of mathematics education, as well as maintains a knowledge base of practice and policy in looking at the future of the field. Content is aimed at preschool to 12th grade with peer-reviewed and invited articles.

Robin Ward, RUSMP's Director of Curriculum Integration and Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Rice, and Jennifer Albritton authored two papers - Vasily Kandinsky’s Versatile Art and A “Composition” of Color and Mathematical Content - that are published in the September 2020 issue of Mathematics Teacher: Learning & Teaching PK–12.

Vasily Kandinsky’s Versatile Art is an article that describes how a second-grade teacher used Vasily Kandinsky’s Composition VIII as the springboard to a lesson in data creation and analysis, while also integrating geometry concepts, reading, and writing. A “Composition” of Color and Mathematical Content includes original artwork using geometry, showcasing how art can foster understanding and appreciation of fundamental concepts across fields.
