The Rice University School Mathematics Project was featured in an August 2017 report from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation: Opening doors: How Selective Colleges and Universities Are Expanding Access for High-Achieving, Low-Income Students. As a finalist for the 2016 Cooke Prize for Equity in Educational Excellence, Rice University's strong institutional commitment to increasing socioeconomic diversity was highlighted throughout the report. In its recommendations to other universities, the report cites RUSMP as an example of "the creation of professional development opportunities for teachers, especially focused on knowledge and skills teachers may need to best educate high-achieving, low-income students" (p. 32).
